Beach Rules

No pets or animals of any kind are allowed on the public beach citywide, except ADA service animals.

Alcohol on the sand is not restricted citywide, but a stretch of Sunset Beach bans open containers on weekends and major holidays from the first weekend in February through the last weekend in September, and alcohol is barred within 50 feet of the Beach Pavilion and Sunset Vista Park Pavilion without a permit.

Building a fire on the beach requires the consent of the city commission.

A shade canopy up to 10 feet by 10 feet is allowed without a permit. Anything larger needs a permit from the Community Improvement Department.

Glass bottles, containers and other glass vessels are banned from all city property, including the public beach.

Cigarette smoking and vaping are banned on the public beach, city parks and the Beach Trail, with unfiltered cigars excepted. Smoking is still allowed in city parking lots and in beach areas between the Beach Trail and the beachfront hotels.
