Dogs are permissible on the Atlantic Ocean beach adjacent to Neptune Beach year-round, but each dog must be on a leash of dependable strength no longer than twelve feet that the handler holds or controls at all times; electric, remote or other non-physically connected collars do not comply. Handlers must carry waste-removal materials and remove waste immediately, and each dog must wear a collar tag showing a rabies vaccination within the past year. A dog may swim unleashed with its handler in the Atlantic and must be leashed again before returning to the beach, but walking a dog in the water does not count and dogs in tide pools must be leashed. Anyone spending more than 30 minutes on the beach must provide the dog with potable water and shade.
