East Matunuck State Beach

Beach Rules

Dogs, drinks, fires and drones at this beach, answered for right now.

DogsYes, on a leash

No animals other than service animals may be brought onto a Rhode Island state bathing beach from April 1 through September 30. From October 1 through March 31 dogs are allowed on a leash of six feet or less, under a handler's control at all times. The beach page words this as a flat ban; the enforceable regulation is the seasonal one.

Allowed until April 1
AlcoholNot allowed

State regulation bars possessing or drinking alcohol on state park property. The only state beach exception is alcohol served under a licence agreement approved by the RIDEM Director, at beaches averaging more than 300,000 visitors a year.

Fires & grillsDepends, with a permit

Open fires, charcoal included, are not allowed except in a designated area or with written permission from RIDEM. From March 15 through May 15 no open fire is allowed between 10am and 5pm without a burning permit from the local fire department.

DronesDepends, with a permit

A drone may be flown on, over or from a Rhode Island state beach only with written permission from RIDEM, and never to harass or disturb other users, wildlife or any natural resource.

GlassNot allowed

Glass is not allowed.

SmokingNot allowed

The beach page lists smoking as not allowed. Note that RIDEM's own smoke free beaches page frames it as a request rather than a prohibition, and no smoking ban appears in the park regulations themselves.

FishingNot right now

Saltwater fishing is allowed only outside the posted in season beach hours, which are 9am to 6pm on weekdays and 8:30am to 6pm at weekends and holidays. Gates close at sunset and no one may be inside a state beach area between sunset and sunrise.

Allowed again from 6 PM
Amplified musicNot allowed

Broadcasting loud or raucous sound through an amplifier, or running any noise making device audible 200 feet away, is prohibited without written permission from RIDEM.

Metal detectingDepends, by area

Metal detectors may be used only in designated areas and during specified periods. The regulation names neither, so ask the beach manager before detecting.
