Del Mar splits its sand into three stretches. At Main Beach, between Powerhouse Park and 29th Street, no dogs at all are allowed from June 16 through Labor Day; the day after Labor Day through June 15 they are allowed on a leash of six feet or less, with an off leash window from dawn to 8am between 25th and 29th streets only. South Beach, from Powerhouse Park to the Torrey Pines border, is leashed at all times year round.
Alcohol is banned on the beach, beach accesses, park lands and public parking lots from 12:01am on March 1 through midnight on the day after Labor Day, and allowed on the beach the rest of the year. It is banned year round on city sidewalks and streets.
Del Mar has no fire rings and bans open fires on the beach, in parks and preserves and on bluff tops. Wood, flame logs, charcoal, gel fuels, torches and flame lanterns are all prohibited. Propane barbecues and stoves are allowed for cooking only, not as heaters or fire pits.
Tents are banned on the beach, in parks and preserves, on bluff tops and in open spaces. A sunshade, cabana or canopy is allowed if it is no larger than 10 feet by 10 feet with no more than two walls, and lifeguards can require one taken down if it blocks their view.
