Beach Rules

Dogs are banned everywhere on Coronado Beach except Dog Beach, the sand at the north end between the main lifeguard tower and the Naval Air Station North Island fence. Dogs may be off leash on that designated sand but must be leashed everywhere before it. Service animals are exempt.

Alcohol is banned on the beach, walkways, park areas and adjacent parking areas year round.

Fires are allowed only in a city fire ring or a personal fire container, never loose on the sand, and never between 11pm and 4am. On North and Central Beach clean wood and charcoal are allowed, with fuel no more than 12 inches above the rim. On South Beach, from the Naval Amphibious Base to the rock jetty by the Hotel del Coronado, only propane fired devices have been allowed since July 3, 2025.

A canopy or similar special equipment needs a permit from the Coronado Recreation Department, as does any gathering of more than 25 people.

Glass containers are banned on the beach, rocks, walkways, park areas and adjacent parking areas.

Coronado is a smoke free city. Smoking is banned on all public beaches, parks, sidewalks, streets and parking areas.

Fishing is allowed on Coronado Beach under California state fishing law.

Disturbing noise is banned, and any voice or music amplification on the beach needs a permit from the Coronado Recreation Department.
