Beach Rules

Dogs may be off leash under voice and sight control on Baker Beach north of Lobos Creek. Everywhere else they must be leashed, and Lobos Creek itself is closed to pets.

No wood beach fires at Baker Beach. Muir Beach and Ocean Beach are the park's only designated beach fire areas. Charcoal is allowed in the fixed grills the park provides at the picnic area, and a portable charcoal barbecue or liquid fuel stove may be used in established picnic areas unless signs say otherwise.

A group of 50 or more people, or a group of any size bringing significant equipment such as tents or catering, counts as a special event and needs a park permit.

Drones may not be launched, landed or flown anywhere in Golden Gate National Recreation Area without written approval from the Regional Director. The only two sites open to drones in the whole park are a Shoreline Highway pullout north of the Muir Beach Overlook and Fort Funston.

Glass bottles and containers are banned park wide on every beach and within 15 feet of it.

Lobos Creek at Baker Beach is closed to fishing. The compendium does not close the rest of the beach.
