York Beach has no big cruise dock -- scenic and fishing charters run out of Cape Neddick and York Harbor, and the larger Nubble cruise leaves from Ogunquit's Perkins Cove.

Book Nubble tours and fishing charters a day or two ahead in July and August -- small boats and a short Maine season fill fast.

Mornings are the calmest water; the afternoon sea breeze builds a chop by mid-day.

For the free version, skip the boat and walk Sohier Park -- the water-level view is nice, but the classic Nubble photo is from the park.
