Bay Shore is 15 min north and has the best post-beach dining: seafood, burgers, and easy LIRR access.
Take the ferry to Ocean Beach for lunch and come back -- it's a one-hour detour that makes a great day trip extension.
Captree Boat Basin to the west has a few waterfront spots worth knowing -- especially after a morning fishing charter.
