45 minutes west, Waimea Canyon State Park is the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific' — 3,600 feet deep and 14 miles long. Take the Waipo'o Falls trail for the best view.

Hawaiian monk seals (one of the world's most endangered marine mammals) regularly haul out on the Po'ipu sand. Volunteers from NOAA are often present to monitor and educate.
