Hanalei Bay has waves for every level: Pine Trees and Waikoko for beginners and longboarders in summer, and expert breaks at the west rim in winter. Lessons available from beachside instructors.

One of Hawaii's most beautiful botanical gardens 20 minutes west, built into the Na Pali ridge valley with native plants and ancient Hawaiian taro terraces. Self-guided or guided tour.

Traditional Hawaiian outrigger canoe races across Hanalei Bay organized by the Hanalei Canoe Club, with cultural ceremonies and paddling demonstrations.

Hanalei Taro Festival

Annual celebration of the kalo (taro) plant — Hawaii's cultural cornerstone — with farm tours, cooking demos, hula and the history of north-shore taro cultivation.
