Nathan's on Surf Ave is non-negotiable. Go to the counter inside, not the window -- the hot dog is identical, the line is shorter.
Walk five minutes east on the boardwalk for Brighton Beach -- completely different dining scene, Russian-style, and excellent.
The boardwalk snack bars are fine for fried dough and fries. For real food, cross Surf Ave into the neighborhood.
